Approaching a ‘certain age’ in successful careers across design and marketing, Paul and Bryan, who had been friends and collaborators on projects for some time, had no intention of retiring. Instead, they saw that particular milestone as an opportunity for a change of direction…
Despite embracing the digital age, they both still enjoy using the traditional methods of communication – the hand-written birthday card or thank you – and so set out to produce the kind of greetings cards that they’d relish sending. In short, meaningful mailings. With the popularity of Paul’s limited edition prints that he’d been producing on an ad hoc basis in parallel to the ‘day job’, they realised they had the beginnings of a series of subjects. Other images were created for appraisal and after a lot of discussion (and fine wine) and subsequent honing and refining, the first ranges emerged.
And it’s not just about the fronts! On the backs of cards, where appropriate, there is dialogue to explain further the idea behind the design or share its inspiration. ‘It’s our way of having a conversation with our customer and the card’s recipient’ says Paul.
Having sweated over the ideas, design, colour palettes and finer details of our cards, we have to make sure they are produced to our exacting (some call it ‘picky’) standards…
After an exhaustive search and a few trials we found a real gem of a printing company that was founded in 1827 and remains in the same family to this day. They’ve kept abreast of the latest technology and do all the things that you’d expect from an environmentally responsible printer. For starters, their latest printing press is carbon neutral and all paper is sourced from sustainable and managed sources. Their attention to detail and vibrantly colourful printing are vital ingredients in the production of an Iconic card.
